During his career at the JPO, Mr. Hiraki was responsible for examination and appeal examination of applications in the fields of biotechnology, food technology, agricultural chemicals, fertilizers as well as agriculture, fishery and lumber processing-related machinery. Mr. Hiraki held the positions of Director and Chief Administrative Judge. He was deeply involved in, and the person chiefly responsible for, discrimination of policy, determination of handling process, and preparation of examination standards for biotechnology and plant-related patents. Mr. Hiraki established the firm of HIRAKI & ASSOCIATES in 1984.
